A click is not a customer.

FORGE notes · Measurement · October 26, 2026

Start with the decision

Before adding another event to your analytics, ask what decision it will support. A menu click can tell you that someone is exploring. A booking click can signal intent. A confirmed booking tells you something different again.

Separate three layers

Attention: people encounter your content. Intent: people move toward a meaningful action. Outcome: the action is confirmed by a reliable source. Keep these layers distinct in dashboards and conversations.

Document the gaps

Third-party booking tools and embedded forms may limit what the website can observe. If the confirmation cannot be measured reliably, name that limitation. Do not relabel a button click as a completed sale.

Validate before you optimize

Check the event in a test environment, inspect its parameters, and confirm it arrives where expected. Test mobile and desktop paths. A neat chart built on duplicate or missing events can lead to expensive decisions.

Choose a useful next step

Map your most important journey from the landing page to the confirmed outcome. Mark what you can measure today, what requires another system, and what is still unknown.
